The Independence Racing Team was formed in 1999 by Shep Snow to serve the Sandpoint, ID community. It provides top quality alpine racing, 100% free, to athletes who might otherwise never be able to participate. Since its humble beginnings, the team has grown to approximately 20 athletes and four coaches and boasts more than 70 alumni. This is a very "hands-on" team with parents taking an active roll in every facet of day to day operations. All of our coaches are fully certified by USSA and are parents of team members. The Independence Racing Team is a 501, (3) (c) non-profit organization.

Team achievements over the years include:

  • More than 100 USSA medals
  • Four Junior Olympians
  • 2008 Pacific Northwest J3 Male Overall Champion
  • Ninth Place Pacific Northwest J3 team (of 30) for 2008
  • Seven individual NASTAR National Championships
  • One King of the Hill Championship
